About the Artist
Born in the early 1970’s and coming up through the years I have found that I have always had a
passion and natural talent for drawing things. Free hand drawing just came natural to me.
However, I decided to take a different path and earned a Bachelor's degree in Computer Information
Systems in 1999. In late 2001, my current job as a data analyst/computer programmer turned south
and left me laid off and out of my field permanently. I did however switch professions and have found
gainful employment in the insurance industry. I'm also working toward earning certifications in
holistic nutrition consulting and wellness consulting.
While I was laid off from work I needed to do something to keep myself occupied while in between
looking for jobs. I picked up my sketch pad and started to draw. After a while I got the idea of trying to
learn how to paint. I may have painted a picture or two as a child in art class, but nothing more. Also
after thinking about my late uncle. Gabriel Perez, a great artist who passed away in October 2008, I
decided why not follow in his footsteps and try it. So I decided to go to the art store nearby and pick
up some paint brushes, a few canvases, some acrylics and oils, along with some other art supplies
and give it a shot. Over time, I got better and better. I consider myself a self-taught artist as I learned
almost everything through trial and error. However, I did buy a few books here and there along the
way. I've been painting now for several years and really enjoy it.
